I recently just asked a first time home buyer what they thought was the most important thing they learned in buying in today’s market.
The response was “the neighborhood is just important as the home”.
What does this mean?
- Do your research on the neighborhoods and schools.
- Take time in that area. Visit the area more than once at different times of the week and day. Watch the neighbors, look how the other houses are maintained, make sure your cell phone works in the area and were do I put snow in the winter. These are just a few things to think about. A real estate professional should be familiar with the neighborhood and help you answer your questions or direct you to the answers.
- In this market don’t get fooled by temptation of a good price. Don’t think it is quick equality all the time. The neighborhood and future of that neighborhood could change dramatically. Are their many foreclosures or house on the market, any major potential job cuts, how is that city’s budget for the next few years has that area reduced it’s prices to reflect the true market?
A good price does not always make a good deal. Sellers are motivated to sell everywhere and theirs always another property to buy.
