With an average summer temperature of 70.8 F, and an average winter temperature of 26.6 F, Cortez enjoys all four seasons. Population of 8,000 is outdoor-oriented; participating in our down to earth hobbies like hunting, fishing, mountain biking, gardening, hiking the mountains and canyons, jeeping, horseback riding, river rafting, cross country skiing, are more to our liking than that city night life.(Unless you count the milky way splashing across the night skies).

Friendly people create the activities we all love, and we come together for rodeos, car shows, agricultural festivals, balloon festivals, arts and crafts festivals, wine tastings, harvest festivals, Christmas celebrations, art walks, parades, and to meet new friends and enjoy the company of those we've known for a long time.
