Bayfield is situated in the eastern part of La Plata County in southwestern Colorado about 18 miles east of Durango and 50 miles west of Pagosa Springs on Highway 160. Located between the San Juan mountain range to the east and the La Plata Mountains to the west. The town is nestled in the Pine River Valley next to the Los Pinos River and the HD mountain range. Many local residents enjoy the abundant National Forest and BLM land for hiking, hunting, horseback riding and any other outdoor recreational activities.
